Eilish 미정 Shin-Culhane is a Tkaronto-based queer half-Korean artist. They feel equal parts mover and maker - dancer and choreographer, and strive for continual challenge in both realms. Raised in Toronto, Eilish lived for four years in New York City where they completed their BFA in dance from Marymount Manhattan College. Since returning to Toronto in 2020, Eilish has furthered her artistic curiosities through various commissions, residencies, and performances.
As a performer, Eilish has had the privilege to dance in works by Peter Chu, Bill T. Jones, Nicole von Arx, Esie Mensah, Nova Bhattacharya, Frog in Hand, Angela Blumberg, Adam Barruch, and Vim Vigor. Eilish is foundationally based and trained in Western Contemporary dance. She has recently performed in works with Bharatanatyam and Afrofusion roots which has enriched her physical repertoire.
Eilish’s first large-scale choreographic commission was in 2022 through Peggy Baker Dance Projects. They have since presented work through George Brown, TO Live’s Discover Dance, the Hamilton Fringe Festival, TDT’s Pilot Episodes Program, the COC’s Expanding the Canvas Program, and the Citadel + Compagnie’s Night Shift Festival. Over their career, they have been supported by National Ballet’s Open Space Programme, the Ontario Arts Council, the Toronto Arts Council, and the Canada Council for the Arts. They center joy, discussion and release through their collaborative process, prioritizing personal connections and individual growth. Eilish continues to be inquisitive in both her mover and maker selves - she values community, play, and curiosity.
